Exercise Bike in the Moon Base Station

Should we use exercise bikes on the moon to stay fit? Should we collect the energy from all the pedaling to use for back up power or to top of the batteries? Well recently this subject came up in an online think tank and a guest said it was a dumb idea.

What a dumb idea to exercise in Space; Stationary Bike How Ridiculous Indeed. This is why NASA has them already and why they are also in submarines?

Then he went on to lambaste the idea to the rest of the think tank as he stated; It's fine to talk about using human-generated electricity, as long as you know how much that is. Otherwise you end up wasting time designing things like pedal-powered space ships.

Who said anything about powering up a whole space ship? And what makes you think that this concept did not take the amount of potential energy into consideration? What on Earth are you talking about? We are talking about additional systems and conservation of energy. If you are going to have tension resistant stationary bikes that NASA and the US Navy already has, then why would you use it to generate power? You could even use the power generated to make a goal of the workout? Why not? Give me one good reason why not? We have crank up flashlights, laptops and tools? Why not plug in the power you generate. Why waste energy if you do not have too. Indeed, why waste energy if you do not have too? Consider this in 2006.
