Some children want to always go to their best friend's home after school. If this is a common occurrence than the single parent might consider contacting the parents of their child's friend and asking about paying them for childcare. Many parents welcome the extra bit of income and the company for their child after school.
If a single parent is living on a very fixed income than they may be able to receive free childcare. Many governments offer fully funded childcare programs for families living on a small income, this includes single parent families.
